Now Is a Great Time to Visit Our Marriott Hotels in Mexico
We all remember the media attention about the H1N1 flu strain earlier in the spring. Of course, much of the early attention was on Mexico, which had the first reported cases. The safety and health of our guests and associates is our number one priority at all times and we take great care to follow the appropriate hygiene and cleaning procedures. We were pleased that similar precautions allowed authorities to bring the situation rapidly under control in Mexico and elsewhere around the world.
However, the number of people traveling to Mexico dropped off significantly. In fact, we have lost over $6 million of business in Mexico due to this flu outbreak. That's really a shame as Mexico is one of my very favorite countries to travel. I've gone down there many times since my first trip outside of the United States in 1948 when I went to Merida on the Yucatan peninsula and to Mexico City.
Mexico is a beautiful, vibrant country with fantastic beaches in places like Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, and a bustling metropolis in Mexico City. It has a very rich culture, terrific food and incredible historical attractions. There's no time like the present to plan a trip to Mexico as travel cautions have been lifted for weeks now and airfares and hotel rates are a real deal.
I know many travelers are weighing whether or not to take a trip this summer due to the tough economic climate, but you can't beat the prices in Mexico. We have 17 hotels throughout the country to choose from, and no matter where you stay, you are sure to experience the wonderful Mexican culture.
I hope many of you will be able to take advantage of these great deals this summer.
I'm Bill Marriott and thanks for helping me keep Marriott on the move.

Comment: My favorite Marriott is in Lihue, Kauai. The Kauai Marriott is like a garden, filled with beautiful tropical flowers and and alfresco cafe right near the beach. We live in Phoenix and we know of many that travel to Mexico. Please continue to tell us about your Resorts and specials in Mexico.

Comment: We spent 8 nights at the Casamagna Marriott the end of June and everything was wonderful for our party of 8. We ventured out into Cancun went into downtown, traveled on the local buses everything seemed very safe. We definately recommend Cancun for family vacations!

Comment: Dear Bill:
I have stayed at your hotel in Puerto Vallarta and this property needs help. First of all, you need to offer discounted pricing to get people back to Mexico. Secondly, this hotel needs to make some changes. You have birds cruelly locked in small cages throughout this property and the sight of this spectacle was very unpleasant. It seems odd that your main restaurant is a Japanese steakhouse. The food there is HORRENDOUS and overpriced. Lastly, for the tennis player, you fail to provide hitting partners at a reasonable price. Overall, your hotel here needs serious help. Thank you.

Comment: Bill: I was wondering why there aren't any Marriott properties in Cabo San Lucas. I've been to the "Mexican Riviera" and found it similar to Las Vegas with a beach. Cabo is such a nice, and unique area. I'm wondering if you are considering expansion there.

Comment: My husband and I just returned from a week's stay at the JW Marriott in Cancun, and it was phenomenal! It was a great time to be in Cancun - the weather was fabulous, the people friendly and welcoming, and the hotel hospitality beyond compare. Don't wait - go NOW. It was the best vacation we've had in years and we came home rested and healthy.

Comment: What the beautiful place is Mexico, I don't even know about it much, I wish to go there & enjoy live there some days.

Comment: I have just checked the rates at the Mexico City JW Marriott for the period between July 28 and 31. The best available rate is $ 369 (10 day advance booking), and the next category (access to Executive Lounge) is $ 469. Well, with all respect, I would not call this a "real deal".

Comment: Bill, I'm looking forward to our all-inclusive vacation at the Cancun CasaMagna. We're going to have a great trip. My only wish is that Marriott would open some properties on the west coast of Mexico and in Cozumel.

Comment: JW Marriott and Marriott Casa Magna, in Cancun, Mexico, are my favorite vacation properties. To add to my previous comments these two properties, integrated, meet all my needs, including the choice and variety of restaurants, grooming needs spa and fitness facilities etc. The only place I know on the Caribbean Sea offering best quality, quantity, and value and variety of food choices. I can relax enjoy the best service "real full service". This property has the best service anywhere. I have been there at least twice every year and five times in some years since the property opened. There are no absolute guarantees in this world but I feel very safe and do not recall any kind of a safety or other problem.

Comment: Hello Bill,
Do you have reliable reports suggesting the H1N1 situation is under control in Mexico? Short of a reliable report, it will be hard to rekindle interest in that part of the world, at least not until the overall situation is brought under control.

Comment: The last "big" family trip we took was to the Marriott Casa Magna in Cancun almost 10 years ago. Five of our six children went and we had a fantastic time! My wife and I had one room, the boys another, and the three girls a third. The resort is beautiful and the service was truly excellent. My kids thought I was really important because of the way we were treated. I did not explain that was just typical Marriott service! My wife's health makes international travel very difficult, but I hope many take advantage of the low rates to visit Mexico.

Comment: Mr Marriott, with all due respect sir, I dont think the drug wars and violence are helping the situation in Mexico. Ive also been told not to venture off the strip in Cancun due to crime. Personally, I wouldnt take my family to Mexico for a vacation. I do respect your attempt to promote Marriott in this troubled country.

Comment: I visit Cancun every year with my family and have been since I was a young child. I absolutely love it and consider it a second home. The Marriott Hotels located in Cancun are fantastic.
If you want to have the best meal of your life in Cancun - visit Gustino's at the JW Marriott. You will not be sorry!

Comment: It's a shame that your company lost so much money from the outbreak. I'm sure their economy is devastated from it.
The worst part is that the flu isn't any worse than the typical flu virus...hopefully, the rest of this summer will pick up a little.

Comment: We are hesitant to consider - not Mexico, but Marriott resorts given our recent experience: We insisted on Marriott resorts when we booked a trip to Hawaii in April, but found out the hard way that Marriott does not reward loyalty if the trip is booked as a package through a travel agent. Your customer service refused any credit to our rewards account - a credit that we took for granted considering Marriott's reputation and high end resorts and prices (compared to our other options), and considering that even our airline in that package gave us full credit for all flights despite economy class tickets.

Comment: Bill,
I hope you recover some business. It's a tough challenge with a health issue and recession. Maybe you can get the local government kick off a health and economic recovery golf/soccer/poker tournament, doctor's convention or activity or something benefiting the community and offer convention space or block of rooms at a discount. Maybe Marriott can partner with a airline to get reduced airfare too? Some investment in creative brainstorming for Marriott and Mexican tourism regarding health and safety is needed along with some 2-5 year recovery planning. I would also try and research what other companies or your other hotels around the world have done after similar situations. Think positively!
