Posted: September 20, 2008 1:18:02 PM

At approximately 7:00 p.m. local time, an apparent car bomb exploded outside of the Islamabad Marriott in Pakistan. The bomb caused extensive damage to the front of the hotel and started a fire. Marriott International and the hotel are working with local authorities and rescue personnel to assist victims. News reports indicate numerous people were killed and injured in the blast. "We live in a dangerous world and this is a terrible tragedy. We grieve for those people who died, or were injured, and their families," said Bill Marriott.

Comment: BILL MARRIOTT, your family name is VERY special to me, personally as after many childless years and five corrective operations, the Marriott Hotel Amsterdam, is synonimous with LIFE, I found out I was pregnant after eight years of trying for a child, I realised I was several weeks pregnant as my husband and I dined in your restaraunt, I order a gammon steak which had a little PINK umberella on the decorated plate...I felt sure, I was finally after eight years going to be a mother, and when I announced this to my husband, I looked at the PINK umberella, and felt sure that this was going to be a girl, and the decoration has been treasured for the last THIRTY YEARS, as I was right, and the sign was right too !! The sadness of the tragic event happening at all, let alone to THE MARRIOTT, was almost as though a memeber of my family had been violated. These are acts done by evil, hate-filled people this is nothing to do with GOD or ALLAH, this is a violation against mankind, God īs creation. God is Love, and we "wrestle not with FLESH and BLOOD, but with principalities, powers and the rullers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places" Jesus encouraged us to LOVE ONE ANOTHER, as HE loved us, whatever race, creed or colour we were. So with love and forgiveness, compassion and peacefulness shall the world be changed, and won. BEV M

Comment: Please accept my deepest sympathy to all the staff and guests of Marriott Islamabad. I believe this is the second time Marriott has been the target of bombing. The first one was Marriott Jakarta (Indonesia) a few years ago, which also created a painful shock to many residents in Jakarta. My thoughts and prayers to you all.

Comment: I just want to let you know how sorry my partner and I are to all the families of staff and guests that have been affected by this hideous attack. Mr Marriott, I only stay at your hotels where possible and after a recent stay at your Surfers Hotel I enjoyed the book you had written about your staff along with their stories. I remember inparticular the one about 9/11 and it makes me sad that along with that story there will be another terribly sad story to add. Our thoughts are will you all, Angela & Jon, New Zealand.

Comment: I'm angry and frustrated. What a CHILDISH world we live in. This spilled blood does nothing but guarantee future bloodshed - back and forth, back and forth. Such a pathetic waste, this feuding. Did I mention the world is childish? My thoughts are with the staff, lost and living, and their families tonight. And I continue to hope for an end to this.

Comment: Dear Mr. Marriott, My wife and I live and work in Afghanistan helping the nation recover. We have frequently come to Islamabad for vacation and have stayed at the Marriott four different times in the last two years. This horrendous event brings us great sadness particularly because we came to know the security guards and doormen who surely lost their lives in this act of terrorism. I hope that Marriott will rebuild and not give in to the wishes and desires of those who would like to turn their backs on the civilized world. Our prayers are with you.

Comment: Mr. Marriott, Thank you for your kind words and support on a tragedy that has befallen on our country yet again. Pakistan has been under attack for quite some time with waves after waves of suicide attacks and it has indeed effected our lives as well as the way we now realize the world to be. Like you said, we live in a dangerous world and these are dangerous times indeed. We have initiated a thread at our website regarding the suicide attack on the Marriott hotel and would be pleased if you would drop by some time there as well and share your thoughts. Our Pakistani readers would most appreciate your support in this regard. The link to the news post is: http://wecite.wordpress.com/2008/09/21/920-pakistan-under-attack/

Comment: Bill, I share your sadness at this terrible outrage. However, I believe it does a disservice to those killed and injured to refer to mass murder as a 'tragedy'. This word is very passive and gives the impression that this is just an event that happens for no reason, such as an earthquake or a tsunami. What has happened in Islamabad was deliberate mass murder, with the intention of destroying as many innocent lives as possible. I would urge you to use a more accurate heading that reflects the true nature of this horrendous attack. Best wishes Jonathan Barrett

Comment: Slowly the consciousness of the world is changing. Incidents like this anger the majority of the world and embolden the few who support terror and chaos. As the world moves forward in time the ideas of peace appear to become more and more importnt to the masses. If there is anything good that can come from this it is that the anger and pain can be used to fortify the ideas of peace. I suggest no matter who you are that you take ANY action today and each day to promote a peaceful existience. Even if it means not loosing patience with one of your children, or unexpectedly bringing your wife flowers. John www.PresidentPeace.com

Comment: Best wishes and prayers to those who were injured. I guess that the attention of terrorists groups is no longer focused on the US Government but private groups that represent the American culture as well.

Comment: This is so horrible! What has the world come to??? Every day we hear about bomb blasts somewhere or the other; hundreds of innocent lives are lost. How can anyone justify taking the lives of innocent people, no matter what their religion, beliefs, cast, creed or color are? Whoever is responsible for such acts is a disgrace to the human race!!! Disgusting, absolutely disgusting!

Comment: Are Marriott being targetted as a sign of Western Capitalisation?

Comment: My prayers are with the wonderful staff members of the Islamabad Marriott as well as the many guests who suffered in this tragedy. I was just at the property three weeks ago and remember the many kind and helpful people who assisted our group, from the security guards to the room attendants, porters, front desk staff, catering managers, and servers in the restaurants and meeting halls. All of them did a remarkable job under conditions that were challenging even before this terrible attack. Will Marriott be organizing any relief fund to assist the families of those staff members who lost their lives, as well as those who were injured or who now find themselves out of work due to the disaster? I would like to make a contribution and hope information about such a fund can be posted on the Marriott website.
