I've just visited our newest Renaissance hotel - The Shelbourne in Dublin, Ireland. It's a spectacular restoration of one of Dublin's finest hotels. It overlooks St. Stephen's Green - 100% location, right in the heart of Dublin.
This is where they drafted the constitution of the Irish Free State in 1922. I actually sat in the room and in the same chair as Michael Collins, one of Ireland's most distinguished leaders.
They restored 265 beautiful guest rooms, a fantastic ballroom, and the food and beverage venue is one of the best I've ever seen in the world. I ate at the Saddle Room - great Galway Bay oysters and Black Sole. They don't admit that it's Dover Sole here in Ireland, but it is. You've just got to love that Irish patriotism.
Here, they call The Shelbourne an Irish treasure. I travel to a lot of hotels every year, and this is one of the best I've ever seen. It makes me very proud, and I know the Irish people are very proud of the tremendous restoration that has taken place here.
I'm Bill Marriott, and thanks for helping me keep Marriott on the move.

Dear Bill,
I'm not entirely sure that printing Michael Collins, one of Ireland's most distinguished leaders in your recent blog on Dublin (a very, very fine city!) will endear you to the majority of your British clients who tend to associate him very closely with the Irish Republican Army - a terrorist organisation. I am not so naive as to think that we British were innocent victims in the whole scheme, he doesn't enjoy quite the same support over here.
Indeed, your own Terms of Use state: It is our goal to maintain a blog that is respectful of various views and opinions and is appropriate for the Marriott on the Move community. With this in mind, we cannot permit postings that in our reasonable judgment: are obscene, promote racism, prejudice, bigotry, hatred or physical harm of any kind against any group or individual
Whilst times have, thank God, moved on, I am surprised that you would be quite so complimentary about him.
Your choice however...

We were in Dublin about 2 weeks ago and stayed at the newest Marriott near Dublin, the Ashbourne. It was a beautiful hotel and the staff were very friendly. Had a couple of problems with the new fire alarm system but the staff and management handled it well. I must admit it was quite a shocker to get woken up from a sound sleep after the 7 hour plane ride and no sleep for 24 hours. The hotel was lovely though and hopefully the price stays reasonable so we can stay there again in the future.

I stayed at The Shelbourne during my first visit to Dublin in the 90's and loved it. This past fall, I stopped in to poke around the restoration during my 2nd visit to Dublin.
I hope to be able to find a room during my planned visit this September.
