The year 2008 is knocking on our door. At the end of each year, I record the Chairman's message for our employees, who we call associates. It's my electronic New Years card and this year, I thought I'd share it with you in this video. If you're listening to my blog rather than reading it, you can listen to the audio portion but I urge you to watch the video. Before you do, I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe New Year.
Wishing You a Happy Healthy and Safe New Year

We love Marriott and now own 3 weeks of timeshare, 2 in Palm Desert and one at Ko Olina in Hawaii. When we travel we use Marriott properties. The service is always TOP notch and friendly. Our 25th Anniversary trip to Ko Olina (which resulted in our purchasing a week there) was FABULOUS!!! The bartenders at the beachside bar became our friends. The workers in the gift shop were always kind. Front desk help, concierge, bell hops, and the timeshare people were fantastic!
My one complaint is that the bedding is reversed. There are wonderful down comforters in the warm weather resorts/hotels and thin spreads in the cold weather hotels. I travel a lot to Chicago and have to take a quilt in with me in order to be warm. We spent 2 nights this Christmas at the Springhill Suites in Rochester, MN and again had to take quilts in with us in order to stay warm. I wish Marriott would reverse this bedding. I know it's minor, but it just seems silly to me that it is the way it is!
Happy New Year!

Hello Mr. Marriott,
We recently had the good fortune to stay at your Marriott Hanbury Manor for a couple of nights in December. It's not the sort of place we'd normally get a chance to stay, but 50,000 Marriott Reward points made it a possibility - and for that, we're very glad!
The Hanbury Manor is a magnificent place, and of the many Marriott properties we have stayed at, it is by far the finest! Beautiful park-like grounds & gardens, a gorgeous old manor house, and the most pleasant & efficient hotel staff we have ever encountered ANYWHERE!! On one evening, my wife & I dined in the hotel's restaurant (steak for two - romatic & marvelous!), but something seemed a bit odd - the waiters were all wearing very expensive business suits. I finally found out that it was the evening of the staff Christmas Party & that the senior management of the hotel & banquet facilities were waiting tables so that their employees could attend the party! We were touched by this, and greatly impressed by this style of management. You have some tremendous people working for you, Mr. Marriott.
Our very best wishes to you & your family for a happy & healthy 2008!
Sincerely, Rob & Kris Kasbohm
P.S. If you ever are looking for a forty-something couple to try out any more of your top-shelf hotels, drop us a line!

Dear Mr. Marriott, New Year greetings. I've been following the growth of Marriott across the world, it's been a steady growth. Marriott is really on the Move. We don't have many hotels in India down south. Marriott is known for its customer service. Would like to know your plans for India and especially south, glad that you have one hotel at UB City, Bangalore.
If the group is looking at expanding the base in South India, we would like to be part of it. We are looking at developing a resort at Tire II Cities like Mangalore, Cochin and Coorg. We also in our land bank have prime properties for Star hotels in Bangalore. We would like to partner it terms of Brand and Management or Joint Development.

I'm in the process of relocating from Dallas, Texas to Honolulu, Oahu (Hawaii) for business. I'm a single mom, with a four-year-old daughter. It was suggested to me that I should stay in a lower quality hotel due to a lower daily rate. I convinced my employer to allow me and my daughter to stay at the Marriott Fisherman's Wharf. I chose the hotel because I trust the Marriott brand and believe that the Marriott hotels offer a comfortable and safe place to stay. I find Hilton hotels to be a bit pretentious. I find Marriott hotels to feel more like home.
The staff at this hotel has turned into my family away from home. They have been nothing less than top quality, the best of the best. They learned me and my daughter's names immediately. They are kind, considerate, and a joy to have around. Every time we come back to the hotel, the staff makes me feel like I've arrived at my home. It's like walking into my house, except ten people are waiting there who seem genuinely excited to see me. It's a great feeling.
I'd like to highlight some shining stars in the Marriott family:
James is the guest services manager. He is always willing to help and just a pleasure to be around. He's got a smile that can light up a room.
Aleks and Marvin are two true gentlemen at the front desk. They are by far my favorites. They are easy to talk to, make me laugh, and laugh at the silly things my daughter does.
Mike and Abel are two of the bellmen. They always have a smile on their face and a kind word to say.
Michael is the concierge. He greets my daughter (by name) every time she passes and listens to her endless stories.
Deepak is the waiter who serves us our breakfast. He is intrigued by the things my daughter says and listens to her patiently. He always has a kind thing to say to me about my daughter.
It has been my pleasure to stay at this hotel. My daughter and I have been at this hotel off and on since December 10. We check out and finish our move to Hawaii on January 5. Thank you for hiring these lovely people to help make our transition easier. It has truly impacted me and my daughter's lives in a very positive and real way.
Much appreciation,
Erica

I'd like to make special mention of my dealings with Marriott this past year, and especially Mr. Rad **** one of your "associates" with whom I have been working to make arrangements for a meeting to take place in October 2009 at the JW Marriott, Washington DC, as part of my work with the U.S. Bone and Joint Decade. It has been a real pleasure working with him. It has also been a pleasure working with Marriott associates on other programs including Elke at the Marriott Toronto Eaton Center. Best wishes for 2008!

Hello Bill, I have enjoyed many of your Marriott properties over the years, especially Grand Lakes in Orlando. What I would be interested in and like to be part of is Marriott Travel. This could be set up everywhere. People would book exclusive travel at only at Marriott properties and their brands. This would increase the bookings at all Marriott properties and their many brands. It would also increase the numbers in your Rewards program. It could possibly be set up the same way Primerica operates under citibank.
Regards,
Kevin Yurchi

Mr. Marriott I truly wish you the same in the upcoming year. May the bountiful and eternal love of the Holy Family warm all your family's days and help you meet your business ambitions in 2008. What a truly comprehensive video linking what happened in 2007 and your business aspirations in 2008. Many chains are out there building hotels to meet the growing market demands for travel and pleasure. As much as you may come to think that the world is getting a smaller place the business and travel needs certainly make the lodging segments look scarcely populated. This particular demand and its segments witnessed expansion especially in Jordan and enhanced the hotels' management prospective on ways to accommodate its' guests growing needs. Having been employed at a number of hotels in the past I can highlight an example. In our hotels in Jordan in the past couple of years we had newly emerging vibrant diplomatic-military trafficking as a consequence to the events in Iraq. This sector could witness retracting as things settle down in the Iraqi state but was quite a noteworthy sector and which demanded security measures. We had long-term stay guests from different diplomatic missions that chose to reside in hotels rather than in private apartments being assured and at rest by the presence of the hotel security. Many hotels increased its security personnel and adapted to the rising security demand of its guests in an attempt to maintain the businesses. Deluxe hotel serviced apartments were on the demand list and witnessed a mixed wave of guests from foreign and local establishments and parties. Their yearly expensive rent was excellent revenue to the proprietors. We also hosted many incoming groups that arrived to Jordan for management, administrative and different technical trainings, also using the hotel's ballroom and electrical business equipments for their training purposes. A hotel that had highly efficient room service was a center of attraction to many. A quick breakfast served in the room for the early risers made the difference to them. As stated in your video efficient, constant and high speed internet was the life-line for many lodgers. I noticed how a sudden interruption in the connections may cause grave inconvenience for the guests. A major weak point at many hotels was the inability of the business center staff and FO staff to solve the internet problems of the guests and they had to summon IT assistance. At many cases in the night time or even on the weekend in Jordan IT staff would be unavailable despite the fact that the guest would be up late contacting other countries which could be at daytime. In this the alternative was to connect the guest via the telephone with the PC technician but I noticed that this would cause grave disturbance to the guests who would rather have a person come up to their room quickly to solve the problem for them. Another setback I noticed is that family business environment and team spirit atmosphere is not present a lot of times. This could enhance job proficiency a lot. As for pleasure and in leisure places in Jordan like the Dead Sea, Petra and Aqaba, when the low seasons prevail the local tourists in Jordan seemed to fill all the hotels and recreational facilities. Business horizons are furthermore constantly broadening with many projects to be either opened or initiated next year. The aspirations are just humongous here and we hope to enhance the business within are hands and flourish in the future.
