She's been with our company since 1991. She didn't begin her career in pastries, but started out as a cocktail waitress in our Broadway Lounge at the New York Marriott Marquis. She was in New York with the hopes of becoming an actress.
However, she decided to stay with the company and transferred to the Orlando World Center Marriott. She began in a position as a pastry assistant and has since built her formal pastry training through hands on experience. Over the last 10 years, she has been consistently promoted and in 2006 was named Executive Pastry Chef. It's a 2,000 room hotel, they serve thousands of meals every day and she's very, very busy. We're sure proud of Lucy and consider her a true Marriott success story.
Marriott is full of stories just like Lucy's. I believe that if you give you associates an opportunity to grow and flourish in their careers, they're happy, and the guests will get great service and be happy too.
By the way, Lucy really bakes a great, fabulous apple pie.
I'm Bill Marriott and thanks for helping me keep Marriott on the move.

Moving Up from Waitress to Pastry Chef

Just read about the new Marriott Anything Awards program. Having missed our 25th Anniversary cruise last year at the last minute, a 2008 National Geographic Expedition to Antarctica is just the right fit for us. What a great option for a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Hope it applies for us. Thanks for a unique and workable idea!
