We're nearing the end of 2008 and I wanted to take this opportunity to reach out to all of my readers and wish them a happy holiday and all the best for 2009. I'll be spending my Christmas in Washington, D.C. Every Christmas Eve, we have all our children and grandchildren over for Christmas Eve dinner. This year there will be 27 of us.
Then on Christmas Day, we go around with our presents and visit each one of our four children and their families. We start out at about 9 o'clock on Christmas morning and we get home at about 6 o'clock on Christmas evening. It's a wonderful day with family and presents and toys for the kids and plenty of good food, so it's a great opportunity for us.
There's no doubt that the year 2008 has been rough for many, and it looks like 2009 will be very difficult, too. But I think it's important this time of year that everyone take a step back from all the stresses of life and enjoy the spirit of giving, the celebrations and, above all, spending time with loved ones that accompany this holiday season.
I hope everyone has a happy and memorable holiday season. Please feel free to leave a comment and share your holiday plans or favorite holiday traditions.
I'm Bill Marriott and thanks for helping me keep Marriott on the move.

Dear Mr. Marriott
A belated Merry Christmas and may the New Year bring you joy, peace and contentment. My Christmas by far was fabulous because my husband gave me New York City for a Christmas present. From the time I was two to seventeen, my parents had brought both my sister and I to New York for Chrsitmas to see the show at Radio City Music Hall. Every year my husband and I wanted to go but something always got in the way unti this year. He planned the entire trip-staying at the Marriott Marquis and purchasing not only Radio City tickets but also tickets to White Christmas (which is my all time favorite movie!). I cried throught most of the Rockette show-due to thinking of my parents and my dear father who used to bring us every year no matter what kind of weather. I know he was there with me! The hotel was fabulous and so was White Christmas. One of the best parts is that we were able to use our Marriott points and we were also upgraded to a fabulous room due to a glich. Everyone was so pleasant and even the bell person helped me get a poster board for my appearance on the Today Show. It was an early morning but we did it! It was just toooo wonderful! We are already planning a second trip! Thanks again!

Mr. Marriott, I had a fantastic Christmas Holiday with my family thanks in great part to the wonderful staff at the London Marriott County Hall. My seven-year old daughter was worried that Santa would not find her since she wasn't at home in Maine. Your wonderful desk staff, especially Maria ******* (Events Organiser), arranged for Santa to personally deliver Katya's gifts in front of the beautiful lobby Xmas tree. The service there was tremendous but the staff really went out of their way to help a young girl have a great Christmas. Truly a Hotel with Heart! Thank you and your great folks for a Christmas to remember. Darryl, Karen and Katya Zeleniak

I spent the most enjoyable time at the JW Marriott in Washington DC this past holiday season. My husband and I booked a corner suite, had a wonderful dinner and went to the Nutcracker at the Kennedy center. Returned to a comfortable night in your wonderful Marriott Bed with linens that are as nice as the ones I use at home. The service was impeccable, the breakfast was very tasteful. What a memorable time out in the middle of a hectic season.
I also had business in Indianapolis Christmas week and spent the week at Marriott downtown. Had a few issues, but I always say it is not that things may occur, it is how they are handled. I can always count on Marriott to prombtly and proffessionally make it right. I look forward to many more Marriott nights in 2009.
As a Platinum member, my business and leisure travel needs require me to stay at Marriotts so often, especially during a holiday, it is like spending time with family.

Thanks for sharing, bill!
This is Tony, saying hello from China! I just spent my Christmas holidays with whole family at Sanya Marriott Hotel, which was a wonderful place for family vacations. To believe or not, Marriott Sanya Hotel is my first five-star hotel I've ever been, which left me a lot of unforgettable memories there. Thanks!
Wish you and your family have a fruitful year of 2009!

I just came back from the Harbour Beach Marriott in Ft. Lauderdale. It is my favorite Marriott and we have spent many December weeks at this resort for many years. The staff in all areas of this hotel are what makes Marriott stand out. Keep up the great work and a Happy New Year to you and your family.

Thanks to Marriot we will be celebrating the Holidays with cheer. The first week of December we had a fire in our home and had to evacuate to the Residence Inn in San Bernardino CA. We were greeted at the front desk by a warm smile from Jennifer who helped us settle in. Hillary's staff has gone the extra mile. Verlencia, Dominique and Paul have all gone above and beyond to show empathy and compassion during these hard times. They have helped make Christmas a good Christmas.

Mr. Marriott, Lucky for me I have my family nearby and am able to plan time together all year, not just at the holidays. So many people move away for their careers or to retire and miss out on family ties. Too many grandkids miss out on the generational link. Our in laws have me book Marriott when they come to us from PA and Mi. for their vacations. I use Marriott for those special getaways with my husband because we know we will be well taken care of and our time together can be all about us!! Unfortunately, our getaway this year happens Jan. 29th in Tampa, Fl. and we can't get a hotel for that one night. Why do hotels make 4 day minimum stay requirements for events that don't even happen until Sunday(like the Super Bowl)? Why 4 and not 3 night requirements? Now I can't stay over in Tampa for one night after the Eagles concert on Thursday and fly out of the Tampa airport @ 10:30 the next morning, Friday. To stay at a Marriott hotel I'll have an hour drive, late at night, after the show and have an hour drive early the next morning to get back to Tampa. Funny thing is on Friday I'll be flying to NJ to stay at a Marriott for a business meeting! It doesn't make me feel name brand loyal to be turned away for one night when there is still the opportunity for the chain to book the room for Fri, Sat, and Sunday. I would be grateful to have an email explanation regarding the policy. Understanding a policy can go a long way to accepting that policy! Enjoy the time between Christmas and New Years, it can be the most relaxing time of the year!! The pressure is off to have everything ready and perfect for Christmas and family can kick back and relax without such a crazy schedule. The perfect way to end a year, together and relaxed! God Bless, Amy Quinn

Mr. Marriott-Merry Christmas to you and your family

Dear Mr. Marriott,
Money comes and goes around our globe at the tick of every single second; businesses collapse and are born at every single day; circumstances either makes us smile or maybe wish a more successful tomorrow. Life is full of success and tough times; but do you know something? There is one thing that the up and downs of life will never ever be able to take away from us at all. And that is our love for our families and gathering with them to celebrate. Merry Christmas Mr. Marriott!!!!!!! I do pray that 2009 will be a better year for us all.

Every year as a child, my family and I would go to a children's hospital near my home during the Christmas season to volunteer and to pass out gifts to the kids that were ill. This small action we took each year would make the childrens' eyes light up with joy and this would make my family and I so happy. Now, as I am a little older, I have not really kept up the tradition as much as I would have liked to, but, I recently broke up with my girlfriend of 3 years and I decided that this year I would give back in a different way. This year, from December 26 through January 10, I will be going to Uganda to work with a program that helps to save gorillas. This task, which is defintely out of my comfort zone, and out of the ordinary for someone to do, is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time now. I have always wanted to experience a completely different culture than my own, and the timing for this trip could not be better. Spending two weeks with gorillas in the wilderness seems to be a great way to give back to Mother Earth and to spend my holiday vacation time. This volunteer effort is for a great cause and I can not wait to be a part of it. Venturing to the rain forest has always been a life goal of mine, and now, as it is on the verge of becoming a reality, I am ecstatic. I would like to wish you and yours a very Happy Holiday Season, and a Prosperous New Year!

Merry Christmas....I have read your family books, been a shareholder, and enjoyed 20 years of wonderful Marriott vacations in Maui, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Desert Springs, Camelback, Minneapolis, Chicago, Seattle, Williamsburg, Annapolis, Dulles, and I am sure I have missed many.....I just got back from three weeks all over the east coast and had my puppy along for a real family vacation and we found it very difficult to find a Marriott Brand Hotel that would take our dog. We ended up staying at the competition that gladly accepts dogs and in many large hotel chains there is not a special cleaning fee. I encourage you and your company to reconsider your policy regarding pets as they are a huge and healthy addition to most families.
Thank you for providing a wonderful home away from home, Marriott does that very well.

Mr. Marriott--because of you and the Marriott name we are able to be with our family during the year. Our three children are all out of state, but because of timeshare, we make a point of getting together once a year at a different destination each year. Only one of our children will make it home for this Christmas holiday, but we are looking forward to all going to Hilton Head in May. Thank You! and Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Bill,
I have been a member of the Marrott family since 1979 when I began my career with the FBI at Quantico, Virgina. From D.C., I have traveled the world but would never think of staying anywhere but a Marriott. Merry Christmas to you and your family from our family in Dallas.

One of my favorite holiday traditions was one my mother brought with her from Germany. We had an advent wreath which had four candles in the holly--one for each of the last four Sundays preceeding Christmas--and one large central one. On each of those Sundays we would light the corresponding number of candles, liten to holiday music and bake German Christmas cookies, which we would seal in tins to be reopened on the holiday itself. That is, of course, after we helped ourselves to some first ;-) Then on Holy Eve, we'd light all four outer candles and the larger central one just as we sat down to Christmas Eve dinner.
Just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe, happy and prosperous New Year!

I just wanted to say that I love your hotels. It is always a pleasure to stay with you on business or pleasure. The Springhill Suites were my recent stay - in Dallas, TX. Thanks for a wonderful experience with friendly staff & clean rooms & the extras - breakfast buffet & snacks at nite & a place to gather/socialize. Wonderful!
