Today, we celebrated a momentous occasion at our headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. We were joined by the Mexican Ambassador to the United States, Arturo Sarukhan, and representatives from the Pulso Hotelero ownership group in Mexico for the signing of a monumental development deal for our Fairfield Inn & Suites brand.
The first of these Fairfield Inn & Suites hotels will open in Cabo San Lucas and Guadalajara in 2011. For a long time, people have asked when we were going to open a hotel in Cabo, and this property will be our first. Cabo is one of Mexico's most fantastic vacation spots and we're excited to finally have a Marriott-branded hotel there.
Marriott has been in Mexico for over 40 years. I remember when we opened Paraiso Marriott in Acapulco in 1968, so it's been a long, long time. We had a great time down there with our family on many occasions. It's a wonderful travel destination.
We are thrilled to continue our expansion in this beautiful country and to see Fairfield Inn & Suites grow. With more than 600 hotels in operation right now, and approximately 160 more in the pipeline over the next 4 years, Fairfield Inn & Suites is one of our fastest growing brands and I'm excited to continue to see it develop.
I'm Bill Marriott and thanks for helping me keep Marriott on the move.

My wife & I are MarriottReward & Marriott investors for many years who selected Mexico as our retirement paradise. We are pleased to see the Marriott expansion in Mexico, esecially the new Fairfield in Guadalajara close to our Lake Chapala home. Marriott always means quality & comfort when traveling.

We stayed in the Pariso Marriott on our honeymoon in March of 1979. We were young and in love and it was the most glamorous hotel we'd ever been in! Thanks for the wonderful memories 32 years later! :o)

Mr. Marriott,
First of all i would like to congratulate you on your success of the world class hotels and the recent great deal with the mexicans. My name is Shadhya Adeel Jaleel, and i am from the beautiful nation called the Maldives. We have currently over 90 resorts on our beautiful country. And a lot of International Brands have their hotels operating here. Each resort is a separate uniquely formed island. Sir, i would like to know if you would like to open a resort hotel in the Maldives. If you would consider please email me to give more details about the untouched beautiful islands which are for sale. I assure you sir, this will be the next great opportunity for your chain of hotels.
Thank you,
sincerely,
Shadhya Adeel Jaleel

South America & Africa are where the huge opportunities are. Asia too, but South America & Africa still offer virgin markets with very little competition.
A very good move indeed!
