TownePlace Suites Spreads Warmth to Children's Hospitals

TownePlace Suites Team at Childrens Hospital in DCA few months ago, I blogged about a nice gift our TownePlace Suites team gave me “Just Because…”  The associates at our TownePlace Suites hotels across the country have been doing the same thing for their guests – providing them with a small token or kind gesture “Just Because…”

This past holiday season, our TownePlace Suites team took it one step further with a “Real Giving” campaign in their local communities.  The brand team and associates from all over the United States made fleece blankets that were donated to local children’s hospitals.

Here at our headquarters, many associates, including my son Stephen and JB, the brand’s new Real  Giving mascot, gathered to make hundreds of blankets for all of the patients at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.  Representatives from the hospital, including their beloved Dr. Bear mascot, came to help with the blanket making as well.  Once all of the blankets were finished, our team personally delivered them to the little patients at the hospital.

Throughout the rest of the country, the teams in our TownePlace Suites hotels did the same thing.  They raised funds for the blanket making materials and then held events at our hotels to assemble them.  Not only did the staff participate in these events, but many guests also helped make the blankets.  It was a great way to bring people together and spread a little warmth during the holidays.

But, this wasn’t just an isolated event around the holidays.  The TownePlace Suites team will continue their Real Giving program year-round to help those in need.  It’s a fantastic program and I thank everyone who has taken part for their time and effort to give back to their communities.

I’m Bill Marriott and thanks for helping me keep Marriott on the move.

Dear Bill Marriott, I wanted to share a little story about our recent stay at the Sacramento Marriott. My 4 year old daughter Shannie has suffered from a rare neuromuscular disease requiring multiple hospital visits and a recent surgery on both legs and feet. It was difficult and emotional to watch her journey through this ordeal. She was asking for cookies which the nurses ok'd but did not eat the hospital's variety. My Dad, after a long day at her bedside was asked by a kind, intuitive deskclerk as to how he was faring, chose to explain the circumstance for our families visit. He further explained Shannie's request. Quickly a supervisor was notified and a head chef was at the front desk producing the finest chocolate chip cookies I've ever had! Shannie loved them! He enclosed a lovely 'get well' note signed Dave and the staff. To the family of an ill child that meant the world to us! Excellent and outstanding service beyond what is required in their job description. Kind and thoughtful human family members you employ at the Courtyard Marriot in Sacramento next door to Shriners Hospital. Many thanks! Helen Jennings, Shannie and family.

I just wanted to say what a great staff you have at the Residence Inn Pasadena Arcadia. The senior sales manager Airin ******* is the best, she was very helpful in securing my long term stay and made me feel like a platinum rewards member.

Congratulations!!! Your spirit will preveal among all of us.

Making blankets yourself is not only a novel way to give charity but also a great way to bring people together.Inadvertently, I presume, it also works as a team building measure for your staff.

Goa is too hot to require blankets. Hence, we at the Mitaroy Goa Hotel raise funds to purchase rice (a staple commodity in India), which we then distribute to the poor and needy.

Cheers
Mihir

Mr. Marriott,

This year I will be hosting the second annual Sigs and Sluggers baseball game with the St. Louis Cardinals where per ticket sold a portion of the ticket sold is donated to the Huntsman Institute. There is a Marriott close to that area and I would really like to set something up with your hotel and invite you to attend (formally).
