A lot has changed since we built our first hotel in 1957. I remember physically moving furniture to decide the right spot. We didn’t have a lot of choices on fabrics and designs. Now, we can design lobbies and rooms by using “virtual” showrooms. The hammer and the nail have given way to a mouse and monitor. It’s really high tech.
Click on the video and you’ll see what I mean.
Walking through a virtual lobby takes a little getting used to. Some of the furniture is real, some is not. It’s like being on a movie set. In fact, we are using movie animation software. Our design team is like a “special effects” production unit. They create giant printouts and add real furniture to give a 3D visualization.
The visual impact allows our executive team to make changes. With a click of the mouse, we’re able to change the wall color and carpet. In a matter of months – not years - we can redesign our spaces and bring the latest styles and technologies to our guests.
We’re certainly in a competitive business and it seems like it’s all about speed to market. So, this summer check out our latest animated production coming to a Marriott hotel near you.
I’m Bill Marriott and thank you for helping me keep Marriott on the move.

This is such a useful set of hints that I've signed up for a subscription. The comments I hate most on my blog, Skywriter, are the ones by people who don't say anything more than, "very helpful post" and from the URL they leave, it's clear they are marketing refrigerators or designer bags that have nothing whatsoever to do with my blog.

A lot has been changed since they built their first hotel in 1957 and as time is passing by newer and more relevant improvements and changes are being introduced throughout the world in order to give luxury service. Hop on a cheap flight from any where in the world and look for the name Marriott.

Thank you for saving the lives of the war in Tripoli.

I do enjoy the technology and would only add that a customer perspective is always needed. For example I have been loyal to marriot for 12 yeras now. I stayed in several courtyards that have been designed so that you can't see the TV from the bed. Not a huge to to someone that doesn't travel but for those of us that do it's everything. Please keep inmind the end user and thanks for your efforts.

Hello Mr Bill,
I have been a fan of Marriott Hotels since 1999 when I first took an assignment in Middle East.I also noticed at many Marriott properties renovation is in full swing.
At San Jose CA I have become an ardent fan...I have been using this property for a couple years and I am always overwhelmed at the quality of Food and Excellent services rendered to me every time I am there, At this place I feel every $ I spend it very well worth, for me its like a home away from home.
"THE NAME MARRIOTT ITSELF SETS ALL OTHER COMPETITION APART"
Keep up the Good work and wish you and your family Good health and Happiness for ever.:-)

Mr. Marriott,
I am thankful for you sharing the video and I think it is interesting what's taken place in the design process and the hotel industry in the last several years.
I notice a lot of changes, particularly in the sector that Courtyard competes in.

Mr. Bill Marriott
We have not had the opportunity to thank you for saving the lives of the war in Tripoli and not just her but also for thinking of us and find another opportunity to other hotels.
And I can not see how to thank you better than you know that we are at your availability to return to Tripoli and to work to open a hotel and make it more than before and make it number one luxury hotel industry.
Heartfelt thank you for everything you have done for us and I wish to inform you that for the whole family Marriott Tripoli you are number one in humanity.

I now know what goes into designing a lobby. Great "special effects" and most importantly, talent. Even though the technology is cutting-edge, it still takes an artist/designer to put it all together. Don't loose your magic (human) touch.

Bill - I've heard that every new design has to meet your approval. Must be fun sitting in a new (virtual) showroom deciding if the space works. That was a cool "behind-the-scenes" look at it all.

Fascinating. Loved the video of you touching the wall. Sure looked real to me. My wife was decorating our home not too long ago and I had to re-paint the living room several times until she approved the wall color. I need a system like you have for designing your spaces. Keep up the innovative work.

I think youve made some truly interesting points. Not too many people would actually think about this the way you just did.

This looks really exciting but one should never forget the basics. I rely on your brand all over the world because of the quality it provides but your hotel (staff attitude) in Prague was/is a huge disappointment. Not sure if it deserves to carry the 'Marriott' name.

I wish 'Hot Shoppe' could witness all this. Go Marriott!
