Shared History of Giving

December 20, 2016

Friends Standing TogetherThis has been a significant year for Marriott International as we combined with Starwood Hotels & Resorts to create the world’s largest hotel company. And when we linked the Starwood Preferred Guest program to Marriott Rewards, we created the strongest loyalty program in the industry.

There’s power in numbers. We now have 85 million loyalty members. That’s not only 85 million people visiting our hotels around the globe—it’s also 85 million people with the potential to join us in positively impacting the communities in which we have our hotels.

Marriott and Starwood have a shared history of investing in and serving our communities. For example, Marriott has a 33-year relationship with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals—helping to raise more than $110 million. And, for more than 20 years, Starwood has partnered with UNICEF, one of the world’s leading children’s organizations. They’ve helped raise over $35 million for more than 4.5 million children.

This holiday season, as a thank-you to our incredible loyalty members, we’re making a donation of Marriott Rewards points to be split between Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and UNICEF.

My mother always said “By giving generously of our time, energy and resources, we enrich the lives of others.” It’s one of the founding principles our company was built on. And, I’m proud to say, we’ve remained committed to this principle throughout our nearly 90-year history.

We’ve also recently created the option for Marriott Rewards members to donate points to more than 1.5 million nonprofits in the U.S. and dozens globally, a first-of-its-kind offering for a loyalty program.  If you are a member, I invite you to join us in giving some of your points that will become cash donations to your favorite charity.

Together we can make an impact. Together we can make our communities better.

I’m Bill Marriott and thanks for helping me keep Marriott on the move.
