More Than 300 Hotels Visited in 2010

Posted:12/30/2010 2:31 PM

Visiting 1 of More Than 300 Hotels in 2010 I’ve blogged many times about my travels and the many visits I make to our hotels around the world.  Every year, I try to make it to about 250 hotels, but this year, I worked extra hard and got past the 300 mark.

It’s a lot of fun getting out there and seeing what’s going on in the field.  It’s one of the most important, and rewarding, parts of my job.  It gives me a great chance to talk to our people who are serving our guests day in and day out and get their feedback, find out what’s working and how we could do better.  It also allows me to personally thank our associates for the great work they do, taking care of our customers and helping our company grow.

Partnering with Ctrip: China's Largest Online Travel Booking Website

Posted:12/22/2010 3:28 PM

Simon Cooper, Arne Sorenson and Bill Marriott with Ctrip Executives at Marriott HQ We recently had some very special visitors that came all the way from China to visit our headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.  They were from a company called Ctrip, which is the largest travel booking engine in China.

Back in October, we signed an agreement with Ctrip in order to leverage their cutting-edge hotel reservation platform, making Ctrip our first online travel agency partner in China.  We are the only U.S. based lodging company to sign an agreement like this with Ctrip, and we’re really excited about it because it means that Marriott and Ctrip will establish direct global connectivity so travelers can make bookings at any of our 3,500 hotels worldwide and receive real time confirmation information.  It will also allow them to receive the same specials and rates found on Marriott.com.

Fairfield Inn & Suites Associates Provide "Hospitality at Home"

Posted:12/16/2010 1:54 PM

Fairfield Inn and Suites Habitat for Humanity Build One of the things I’m most proud of about our company is our strong culture and our Spirit To Serve Our Communities program.  It’s so important that all of us give back to the communities where we live and work.

Our Fairfield Inn & Suites brand has a long history of giving back to the communities where they’re located.  The brand formed a long-lasting and successful relationship with Habitat for Humanity in 1995 with the grand opening of our 200th Fairfield Inn hotel.  And, in 2004, the brand launched its national Hospitality at Home program to engage associates, hotel owners, franchisees, and customers to help Habitat for Humanity continue its great work providing decent, affordable housing for families in need.

Celebrating the First Graduate of the Marriott Scholars Program

Posted:12/06/2010 4:20 PM

Brayan Melo (L) and his mentor David DiFalco When I was growing up, my parents often reminded me that education was a passport to the world.  They encouraged my brother and me to pursue college degrees and instilled in us continuing thirst for knowledge.  They were also committed to building and investing in the lives of other young people and helping develop future leaders.

In 2007, to honor my parents’ memory and vision, we formed the Marriott Scholars Program.  Through this program, Marriott partnered with the Hispanic College Fund and the United Negro College Fund to encourage and help students explore the many opportunities in the hospitality industry.  This relationship is a wonderful blend of Marriott’s commitment to educational opportunities and diversity.

Marriott Associates "Think Ahead"

Posted:12/03/2010 2:29 PM

Think Ahead Fundraising Team Not too long ago, I received a letter from one of our associates in Canada named Jen.  She was born legally blind, but found Marriott to be a welcoming place to work, despite her disability.  Throughout her life, Jen has had a total of thirty surgeries, including five on her brain.

After the most recent operation on her brain, she was told by her doctor this past August that she didn’t have to have any more surgeries and she did not have to see him again.  Jen’s doctor works at a top Canadian teaching hospital, the London Health Sciences Center in London, Ontario.  And, as a way to express her gratitude for everything her doctor and the staff did for her, Jen decided to hold a fundraiser to benefit the hospital that she called “Think Ahead.”
