The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong Takes Luxury to New Heights

The Ritz Carlton Hong Kong In all my travels over the years, I’ve visited some really awesome and interesting hotels.  But, just a few weeks ago, we opened a hotel that takes interesting and unique to new heights…literally.

On March 29, we opened the doors to The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong – the highest hotel in the world.  It’s situated at the top of Hong Kong’s tallest building, the International Commerce Centre in Kowloon.  The hotel occupies floors 102-118 with each guest room boasting a spectacular view of the harbor or Hong Kong Island.

Celebrating the 900th Courtyard by Marriott Hotel

Courtyard Bali Nusa Dua Just a little over 2 years ago, I blogged about a major milestone for our Courtyard by Marriott brand: the opening of our 800th Courtyard hotel in Shanghai, China.  And now, I’m excited to blog about another important milestone for the brand: the opening of the 900th Courtyard hotel – the Courtyard Bali Nusa Dua in Indonesia.  This opening is significant because it’s our first Courtyard hotel in Indonesia, and with 900 hotels in 36 countries, Courtyard is now the 10th largest lodging brand in the world.

Encouraging the Expansion of the Visa Waiver Program

Hawaii I’ve blogged before about how beneficial the Visa Waiver Program is to the United States travel and tourism industry.  But, it also helps a lot of other industries in our country, including all the restaurants and retail that rely so much on international travelers.  The Visa Waiver Program allows low-risk countries and travelers to visit the United States without the hassle and the expense of getting a visa -- and it's a great stimulant for our economy.

I was just in Hawaii and was very pleased to learn that this beautiful U.S. destination has benefited greatly from the program.  Many international visitors to Hawaii come from Eastern Asia, and in the past, citizens of several of these countries had to get visas before their trip, which was a real problem.  However, in November of 2008, South Korea was added to the list of countries that no longer require a visa to enter our country, allowing the state department to reallocate those resources in other areas.

Good Training Leads to Service Excellence

The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company LLC When we talk about service at The Ritz-Carlton, we talk about the Gold Standards.  So I’m excited, that our Ritz-Carlton brand recently received the tremendous honor of being one of only 40 companies named to the elite J.D. Power Customer Service Champion list for service excellence.  To determine which companies would make the list, J.D. Power & Associates evaluated more than 800 different brands based on customer feedback, opinion and perception.

The ladies and gentlemen that are a part of our Ritz-Carlton team are truly doing an amazing job when it comes to ensuring their guests have defining moments during their stays.  First and foremost, we put a major emphasis on training for all employees, no matter their department or title.  Every new employee must attend a mandatory New Employee Orientation before they are allowed to serve a guest.  During this training, there is a strong focus on The Ritz-Carlton culture, which is referred to as The Gold Standards.
