Great on the Road With Courtyard

I’m not one to sit still.  I like to get out, tour our hotels and meet our guests.  I make sure to thank our customers for their business.  One way we reward them is through our Marriott Rewards program. We now have more than 45 million members in 71 countries.

Let me tell you about a special reward.  For the last three years, Courtyard has been the official hotel of the NFL.  This year Courtyard wanted to do something big for its frequent travelers.  The brand launched the “Greatness on the Road – Guest of the Week contest.”  Guests who stayed at least three nights at a Courtyard were eligible to be nominated by the hotel’s GM. What I really like about this contest is the involvement of the general manager.  Our GMs know their guests and do all they can to help make their business trip successful.

Courtyard’s GMs nominated hundreds of guests for a chance to win the experience of a lifetime, a trip to the Super Bowl. The submissions were impressive.  GMs teamed up with their guests to submit videos and essays demonstrating how Courtyard teams up with them to be “great on the road.” 

Blake Tipps GOTRThe Super Bowl crowd noise hasn’t stopped for our winner Blake Tipps (pictured at right).  Blake has been a Marriott Rewards member for 10 years. He’s on the road 140 days a year, 90 of them staying in Courtyard hotels.  Now that’s a loyal road warrior.  General Manager Trent Selbrede from the Courtyard San Diego Carlsbad nominated Blake.

As the grand prize-winner, Blake was invited to the star-studded NFL Honors gala the night before and then to the main event, the Super Bowl.  Even though he was rooting for Peyton Manning, who didn’t have such a hot game, Blake said the entire experience was “the trip of a lifetime.”  He especially enjoyed meeting our Courtyard brand team and getting a behind-the-scenes look at how it runs a big event. 

Thank you Blake for being a loyal guest!  Being on the road for so many days a year isn’t easy.  I’m glad our Courtyard team is helping you be “great on the road.”

One thing I enjoy working in Marriott is worldwide. This is the power of the company, this is the reason people love the stay with us. We have the world best reward program, all memebers who join the reward program can gain all kinds of benefit from us. We love loyal customers, they are the people who konws Marriott, who love Marriott, who enjoy to be part of the family.

Hi Mr. Marriott, thanks for honoring those members of the Rewards program. 45 million strong, there are very good reasons they are members, and the GM involvment to honor them is just another great example. It reminded me of a stay I had at either a FFI or Courtyard in the Quad Cities years ago. On a weekend stay, I was selected as "guest of the day", and there were pleasantries in my room upon my arrival. My name was on a placard at check-in. The next day, the "guest of the day" was someone with a name of religious overtone, but I couldn't help but think of my own beliefs, and thought, "yes, thats' me." I still travel to that area, and am always reminded of how nice the hotel made me feel that weekend.
